Therapy fees & Payment

At The Anchor Institute, we believe that beginning therapy should include a clear understanding of the process, expectations, and costs. We offer private-pay therapy so that treatment can be guided by your needs, goals, and progress. Currently, we do not bill insurance directly. Some health plans offer out-of-network benefits that may reimburse a portion of therapy costs. See below for more details.

The fees below outline our standard rates. We are happy to discuss questions about payment, out-of-network benefits, and whether our services are a good fit for your needs.

therapy fees

Extended sessions, family therapy, and other specialized services may be available when clinically appropriate. Fees and session lengths will be discussed and agreed upon before scheduling.

why private pay?

The Anchor Institute operates as a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance companies directly. This means you pay for sessions directly, rather than having us submit claims to your insurance company.

Private-pay therapy can offer several benefits:

  • Greater flexibility: Treatment frequency, goals, and pace can be guided by your clinical needs and progress, rather than by an insurance plan's authorization or coverage limits.

  • A focus on your goals: Our work is guided by the concerns you bring to therapy and the treatment plan we develop together.

  • Fewer insurance-related requirements: Because we do not bill insurance directly, we do not need to seek insurance authorization or make treatment decisions to satisfy an insurance company's coverage requirements.

  • Potentially greater privacy from insurance claims: When you pay privately and do not submit a claim for reimbursement, we do not send your therapy claims or diagnosis information to your health insurer. If you choose to submit a superbill, however, your insurer may receive information needed to process that claim.

Can I Use My Insurance?

Although The Anchor Institute does not participate in insurance networks or bill insurance directly, some health insurance plans include out-of-network benefits for mental health services.

If your health plan includes these benefits, you may be eligible to receive partial reimbursement for therapy. Reimbursement varies by plan and is not guaranteed. Your insurance company determines whether services qualify and how much it will reimburse.
