Helping Men Become a Steady Presence in Every Area of Life

The Anchor Institute equips men to live anchored in their personal well-being, relationships, and responsibilities. Our work recognizes that men bring different experiences, challenges, strengths, and aspirations to the process of growth. We provide clinical support today while developing educational programs, practical resources, and community opportunities for continued learning.

Why This Mission Matters

Many men navigate difficult experiences without feeling they have a place to process them, ask for support, or develop new ways of responding. Some are working through painful experiences from the past. Others are navigating present challenges, questioning familiar patterns, or trying to determine what comes next.

The Anchor Institute creates opportunities for men to be understood, challenged, supported, and equipped to grow. Our focus is not on adding expectations or defining men by what they provide for others. It is on supporting their well-being and helping them build lives that reflect their values and aspirations.

Why We Exist

The Anchor Institute equips men with the skills, support, and opportunities to live anchored—in their personal well-being, relationships, and responsibilities.

MEET LAWRENCE

I didn't arrive at this work by accident. Long before becoming a therapist, I watched the influence men had within the neighborhoods where I grew up. I saw how the presence—or absence—of healthy male leadership shaped families, friendships, and entire communities. Those early experiences sparked questions that have guided much of my career: What helps men flourish? What causes them to lose their way? And how can healing in one person's life change the lives of many others?

Throughout my career I've had the privilege of working with men whose stories looked remarkably different on the surface. I've counseled men inside California's prison system, where many shared histories of abandonment, violence, addiction, and unmet needs that shaped the paths they followed. I've worked alongside men in churches, corporate settings, neighborhoods, and community mental health. Today, as a Clinical Director serving adolescent survivors of sex trafficking, I continue to witness how the decisions of men can profoundly impact the lives of women, children, and entire communities.

Those experiences have convinced me of something simple: beneath different backgrounds, professions, and life circumstances, many men wrestle with similar questions about identity, purpose, belonging, relationships, and how to move forward. My work isn't about defining men by their past or comparing one struggle to another. It's about creating a place where men can be understood, challenged, equipped, and supported as they pursue meaningful change.

The Future of The Anchor Institute

Clinical services are the starting point for The Anchor Institute. Over time, we intend to expand access to educational programs, practical resources, and community opportunities that support growth beyond the therapy room.

As these offerings develop, our goal is to create more ways for people to engage with The Anchor Institute, including exploring funding and assistance options for those who may otherwise face barriers to participation.
